COVID-19 Vaccinations

In accordance with State regulations, Tops will be offering the COVID-19 vaccination at its registered pharmacies. At this time:

  • Following state guidelines appointments are available in NYS and Pennsylvania.
  • Your local pharmacy team is unable to schedule an appointment for you in person or via phone.
  • Walk-in appointments are not available.
  • We are not taking a waiting list.
  • Please allow 30-45 minutes per appointment

In accordance with the State regulations*, Tops will be offering the COVID-19 vaccination for anyone 18 years of age and older who elects to be vaccinated.

For those who do not currently fit within these parameters, we will continue to follow the government's rollout plan for vaccinations.

*Tops currently is administering either Moderna or Janssen COVID-19 vaccines which have only been approved for those 18 years of age or older by the FDA.

NY: Tops pharmacies throughout the New York State are currently receiving a small allocation for those 30 years of age.

There is no cost to get the vaccine if you elect to do so, but your insurance card, proper paperwork, and photo ID is required in order to be vaccinated.

For stores with a pharmacy, your vaccination will be administered in the pharmacy area. It is imperative that you stay on schedule with your vaccination(s) for the vaccine to be effective. If you are given the Moderna vaccine, the pharmacy staff will schedule your second dose 28 days later. If you are given the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, there is only one shot.

**The Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine has not been approved or licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but has been authorized by FDA through an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for active immunization to prevent Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in individuals 18 years of age and older. The emergency use of this product is authorized only for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of the emergency use of the medical product under Section 564(b)(1) of the FD&C Act, unless the declaration is terminated or authorization revoked sooner.

Anyone 18+ may receive either the Moderna or Janssen COVID-19 vaccines.

None of the COVID-19 vaccines currently in development or in use in the United States , contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. There are several different types of vaccines in development. However, the goal for each of them is to teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. Sometimes this process can cause symptoms, such as fever. These symptoms are normal and are a sign that the body is building immunity. Learn more about how COVID-19 vaccines work.

It typically takes a few weeks for the body to build immunity after vaccination. That means it's possible a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and get sick. This is because the vaccine has not had enough time to provide protection.

Two doses are needed. Depending on the specific vaccine you get, a second shot 3-4 weeks after your first shot is needed to get the most protection the vaccine has to offer against this serious disease. Both approved and all but one of the COVID-19 vaccines currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in the United States need two shots to be effective.

There is not enough information currently available to say if or for how long after infection someone is protected from getting COVID-19 again; this is called natural immunity. Early evidence suggests natural immunity from COVID-19 may not last very long, but more studies are needed to better understand this. Until we have a vaccine available and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices makes recommendations to CDC on how to best use COVID-19 vaccines, CDC cannot comment on whether people who had COVID-19 should get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools available. Vaccines work with your immune system so your body will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. Other steps, like covering your mouth and nose with a mask and staying at least 6 feet away from others, help reduce your chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others. Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following CDC's recommendations to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from COVID-19

There are currently no available vaccines that will prevent COVID-19. However, multiple agencies and groups in the United States are working together to make sure that a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine is available as quickly as possible. A flu vaccine will not protect you from getting COVID-19, but it can prevent you from getting influenza (flu) at the same time as COVID-19. This can keep you from having a more severe illness. While it's not possible to say with certainty what will happen in the winter, CDC believes it's likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both be spreading during that time. That means that getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever

The protection someone gains from having an infection (called natural immunity) varies depending on the disease, and it varies from person to person. Since this virus is new, we don't know how long natural immunity might last. Some early evidence-based on some people- seems to suggest that natural immunity may not last very long.

Regarding vaccination, we won't know how long immunity lasts until we have a vaccine and more data on how well it works. Both natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity are important aspects of COVID-19 that experts are trying to learn more about, and CDC will keep the public informed as new evidence becomes available.

Experts do not know what percentage of people would need to get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity to COVID-19. Herd immunity is a term used to describe when enough people have protection-either from previous infection or vaccination-that it is unlikely a virus or bacteria can spread and cause disease. As a result, everyone within the community is protected even if some people don't have any protection themselves. The percentage of people who need to have protection in order to achieve herd immunity varies by disease.

Also, CDC has developed a new tool, v-safe, as an additional layer of safety monitoring to increase our ability to rapidly detect any safety issues with COVID-19 vaccines. V-safe is a new smartphone-based, after-vaccination health checker for people who receive COVID-19 vaccines.

CDC and FDA encourage the public to report possible side effects (called adverse events) to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) . This national system collects these data to look for adverse events that are unexpected, appear to happen more often than expected, or have unusual patterns of occurrence. Reports to VAERS help CDC monitor the safety of vaccines. Safety is a top priority. Healthcare providers will be required to report certain adverse events following vaccination to VAERS. Healthcare providers also have to adhere to any revised safety reporting requirements according to FDA's conditions of authorized use throughout the duration of any Emergency Use Authorization

When you receive your vaccine, you should also receive a v-safe information sheet telling you how to enroll in v-safe. If you enroll, you will receive regular text messages directing you to surveys where you can report any problems or adverse reactions you have after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

As you visit our Tops stores, you'll see hand-sanitizing stations at the entrances, throughout the store, and at checkouts. Also, dedicated associates are regularly cleaning shopping carts, handles, hand baskets, kiosks, foodservice counters, and other frequently touched surfaces throughout the store. In addition, we're continuously sanitizing the checkout areas including conveyor belts, pin pads, as well as all surfaces at our self-scan registers.

Manufacturers are trying to meet the high demand for household products like paper, cleaners, and storage and trash bags. At times, we may be temporarily out of something. Or we have to limit t he number of items you can purchase so that we can serve all customers.

Tops Grocery Pickup & Delivery

Visit to simply order your groceries from the comfort of your home. Experienced shoppers will then gather and prepare your items for pickup or delivery. For those selecting curbside pickup, upon arrival, customers can park in a dedicated parking spot reserved for Grocery Pickup customers and a Tops associate will load your groceries right into your vehicle without you ever having to leave your car. It's that easy! For those opting for home delivery, your groceries will be delivered right to your doorstep ensuring a full contactless shopping experience.


Tap & Go Payment

Aligned with services like Apple, Google, and Samsung Pay, along with many compatible credit and debit cards, this digital wallet allows shoppers to simply tap the check-out console with their phone or credit card to complete their transaction. This new service is currently available in most Tops store locations with full implementation expected to be complete by the end of the year.


Another new, convenient way to shop at Tops where you control your level of engagement. By simply using your phone, you can scan and then bag your items as you shop. While shopping, the user will see a running total and watch their discounts and rewards automatically apply. When finished, they simply visit any pay station for an expedited, contactless self-checkout experience allowing them to get in and out quickly. Available at select Tops Markets locations.
